When Should You Seal Concrete in Texas Heat?
For new concrete, most sealer makers call for letting it cure about 28 days first (some products allow earlier, so read the label). In DFW summers, seal early in the morning or in the evening when the slab is cool, inside the temperature range on the product label, with no rain expected for at least 24 hours. Most exterior concrete is resealed every 2 to 5 years.

A simple timing checklist
- Cure time: about 28 days for new concrete unless the product says otherwise.
- Surface temperature: stay within the label range. Summer slabs in direct sun can be far hotter than the air, which makes sealer flash-dry, bubble or go on unevenly.
- Time of day: early morning is usually best in June through September.
- Weather: dry surface and no rain in the forecast for at least a day.
- Clean first: remove oil, dirt and efflorescence and let it dry.
Which sealer?
Penetrating sealers (silane/siloxane) soak in, do not change the look much, and suit driveways and walks. Film-forming acrylics add sheen and are common on stamped or colored concrete. Typical published cost for sealing cured concrete is about $1 to $3 per square foot.

When to Seal Concrete in Texas Heat: common questions
How long should new concrete cure before sealing?
Most manufacturers recommend about 28 days. Some sealers are made for earlier use, so follow the product label.
Can you seal concrete in 100-degree weather?
It is risky. Hot slabs make sealer dry too fast. Seal early in the morning or in the evening, within the label temperature range.
How often should concrete be resealed in Texas?
Most exterior concrete is resealed every 2 to 5 years, depending on the sealer, sun exposure and traffic.
Does sealing stop concrete from cracking?
No. Sealer protects the surface from water, stains and wear, but cracking comes mostly from base, soil movement and joints.
