Driveway replacement

Concrete Driveway Replacement in Dallas-Fort Worth

When the cracks run across the whole slab and sections have sunk, patching won't hold. We tear it out, fix the ground under it, and pour a new driveway with steel and proper joints. New driveways and extensions too.

Signs your driveway needs replacing

Repair is cheaper when it works. These are the signs it won't:

  • Cracks across most of the panels, not just one or two
  • Several sections sunk or lifted, with edges you can catch a toe on
  • Water running toward the garage or pooling against the house
  • Old patches that keep breaking
  • Concrete that's thin, crumbling at the surface, or has no steel in it
  • The approach at the street is broken up and the rest isn't far behind

If it's only one or two sections, look at driveway repair first.

The job

How a driveway replacement works, day by day

Most jobs run a few working days plus cure time. Weather can push it.

  1. 01

    Estimate and plan

We measure, check drainage and trees, and talk about what you park. Written estimate with thickness, steel and base work spelled out.

  2. 02

    Permits and HOA

Many cities require a permit for work at the street. Some HOAs require approval for changes. We sort out what's needed before demo.

  3. 03

    Tear-out

The old driveway gets broken out and hauled away. We protect the garage slab, walks and landscaping we're keeping.

  4. 04

    Base and steel

Soft spots dug out, base placed and compacted, forms set, rebar placed on chairs, dowels into the garage slab.

  5. 05

    Pour, finish, cure

Pour, broom finish, cut joints. Walk on it in a day or two. Cars usually wait about a week.

Wider driveways, parking pads and new pours

Three cars and a two-car driveway? We add width, side parking pads, a pad for the trailer or boat, or a turnaround. The extension gets doweled into your existing slab and poured on a real base, so the two pieces don't split apart in a couple of years.

Building new on an empty lot or a rural property in Kaufman County or out past Terrell? Same rules: base, steel, joints and slope. Longer rural driveways that meet a county or state road may need a permit and sometimes a culvert. We check that before we price it.

Questions to ask anyone

How to compare driveway estimates

Every contractor says they do it right. These questions separate a real driveway from a thin slab poured on dirt:

  • How thick will it be, and will the approach be thicker?
  • What size rebar, how far apart, and is it on chairs?
  • What base goes under it, and how is it compacted?
  • Where will the control joints be?
  • Which way will water drain?
  • Is tear-out and haul-off included? Permits?
  • When can I walk on it and park on it?

We answer every one of those in writing on our estimate.

FAQ

Concrete Driveway Replacement: common questions

How long does it take to replace a concrete driveway?

Usually a few working days for demo, base and pour, depending on size and weather. Then walk on it in a day or two, and park cars on it after about a week.

How thick should a concrete driveway be in Texas?

Thick enough for what parks on it. Many residential driveways are 4 to 5 inches with rebar, and heavier vehicles call for more. Many cities require the approach at the street to be thicker. We'll put the thickness in writing.

Do I need a permit to replace my driveway in DFW?

Most cities require a permit for work at the street (the approach and public sidewalk), and some require one for the whole driveway. It varies by city, so we check before we start.

Can you replace part of a driveway and keep the rest?

Yes, if the rest is solid. We saw-cut a clean line, dowel the new section into the old, and match the finish as close as concrete allows.

How much does driveway replacement cost?

It depends on size, tear-out, base work, thickness, steel, access and permits. We measure on site and give you a written estimate. It's free.

What's the best time of year to pour a driveway in Dallas?

Concrete can be poured most of the year here. In summer we pour early in the morning, and in winter we watch for freezes and protect fresh concrete.
